The essential question raised in False
Profits is graphically portrayed
on the book's cover in a 300 year old engraving painted by an unknown Franciscan
monk. The artist contrasts the two worlds of spiritual salvation and material
prosperity.
One of the most compelling tricks of multi-level marketing promoters and some pyramid scheme perpetrators is to promote financial prosperity as salvation itself or, at least, God's sign of spiritual deliverance.
The engraving on the cover of False Profits is one of thousands of ancient renderings by unknown monks around the world that are being assembled and archived in a small monastery in Belgium. Volunteers are preserving works whose timeless messages are written in fading ink on crumbling paper.
A portion of the revenue from this book is being contributed to support that preservation effort.
